Memorial Day Tribute – We Owe More than A Moment of Reflection
May 26th, 2008 categories: San Diego Real Estate
Holiday in May
Each year we have a holiday on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day. Many of us reverently fly our flags and some even make gardens of colorful flowers to symbolize our nation’s loss. Many just think of it as another 3 day weekend in late spring that brings us the all joys of the beginnings of summer weather. Wherever you might be on that scale, you might also reflect on how the loss of our brave men and women have impacted their families, wives and children who will endure their loss of loved ones, for all their lives. Husband and wives, children, mothers and fathers separated without any real reconciliation. Only the haunting memories of life as it was not how it might have been.
Honor the Fallen
As we honor our fallen and give thanks for their sacrifice in our own way, let us all be ever more mindful that we owe their survivors and their memories more than just a holiday with a moment of reflection. We have a debt and we could begin repaying that debt by living our lives better and at least to have civility and peace on our homeland. We could better learn to respect those we most disagree with. We could be more kind and more tolerant of others when under pressure. To be more patient with our fellow man and do so much more for those that are without. To be more involved in our schools our churches and temples. To smile more and to be more grateful for what we have and what we can share. To be at peace in our homes with our families. If we could do those things, their sacrifice could mean ever so much more. For we would truly understand not only what it means to be free but also to be grateful for the freedom they paid such a dear price for.
My Tribute
As my Tribute to our Fallen and also to their survivors, I would like to share this short video that may bring those words closer to your heart and to give you more than a moment of reflection.
