Life Changing Generosity
September 20th, 2007 categories: Local San Diego News You Can Use, San Diego Real Estate
I read an article by Robert J. Bruss and in it a person wrote about a property they bought for $35,000 17 years ago, now worth about $190,000. They have had the same tenant for all of the 17 years they owned it.
They want to gift the property to the tenant who is down on their luck and about Roberts advise on how they go about his at no additional expense to them.
Mr Bruss went through the logical process of using a Quit Claim Deed to do this and the fact that they needed to file a federal gift tax return since it is over the $12,000 annual gift tax exemption. He suggested that no tax would be due unless the filer has given away more than than the one million in life time non-exempt gifts.
What struck me about the article was not so much the advise which was great as Roberts advice usually is but that there are so many wonderful people like this in the world that are so selfless.
I am always taken with the generosity in our country and how many truly generous people there are that do these selfless acts. They see a need and just step forward. They are truly what makes this country so great!
As I read this I thought what fun it would be to be wealthy and spend the rest of my life changing the lives of so many in need. Imagine just traveling about the country and locating the specific needs and making other lives spring to life with the generosity. That dream would be just totally empowering to me.
But it also occurred to me that we dont have to be wealthy. We can all do many lesser things as well that can and do make a difference in others lives. If you read this far, you are also the type that would help!

William – I too, think it would be wonderful to be wealthy enough to be extremely generous such as this person.
Let generousity be king, I say. Love this story and hope it gets much more attention!
Hi William,
Ricardo Bueno here from Active Rain; one of the distant admirers of your writing.
I love this story! This man’s generosity is simply inspiring! There are a lot of great people out there.
My mother had melanoma cancer many years ago, (she successfully recovered), and a close friend (an old business partner) of hers always came to the rescue. He supported us financially if we were ever in need and he essentially looked after us. Not that he was obligated or anything. He simply did it out of the kindness of his heart. That’s the best gift anyone could ever receive!
Many Thanks Paula,Lets work on this next year! Sound like a plan?
Jason, You of course helped make that happen! Many Thanks. This past week as you may have read, Robert Bruss passed away and his column will be sorely missed. He was unique in the field and many of us relied on his great guidance.
Ricardo, Thank you for sharing that story about your Mom and your great benifactor. His kindness will always remembered and you are testimony to that same kindness.
